Happy 10th Anniversary, Buffy fandom!

As of today, it's been 10 years exactly since "Chosen," the BtVS series finale aired, and fandom is still going strong! So, to celebrate 10 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, let's have a celebratory comment!ficathon! Absolutely everyone is welcome to play, whether they've only seen three or four episodes of BtVS or if they've seen every episode of BtVS three or four times each.

The general gist of this is the same as any other comment!ficathon, in that people leave prompts in the form of comments, which are open for anybody else to fill with a ficlet posted in a comment. Everything should be realated to the Buffyverse (including characters from Angel), but other than that, any prompts or fills are more than welcome!

This ficathon starts May 20, 2013, the tenth anniversary of BtVS's finale, but it will continue on indefinitely, as long as there is continued interest. So, don't be afraid to keep leaving and filling prompts come May 21st.

Rules

1. One comment per post. We already know what fandom you're prompting for, but please format your prompts with a character/pairings, prompt format. You can leave as many prompts as you want (the more the better), and fill as many as you want.

2. Crossovers and AUs are allowed and welcome, so long as BtVS is one of the crossover fandoms and that at least one BtVS character remains central to the prompt. If you're prompting a crossover, please format your prompt: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/other fandom, characters/pairings, prompt.

3. Bonus points to people who pimp the comment!ficathon, so we can get as many Buffy fans to come and play. There are banners in this comment thread, but if you feel moved to make your own, please do and post them to that thread, because the current banners were made by me and are mediocre at best.

4. Please post a link to all filled prompts here, in this comment thread. Make sure to give your fills a header, including title (if you have one), fandoms if you write a crossover fill, characters, pairings, rating, and warnings. For warnings, warn as you feel appropriate, but please be sure to warn for character death, explicit sexual content, extreme violence, underage sex, and rape/noncon/dubcon.

5. Have fun! This is a comment!ficathon to celebrate 10 years of fandom post-Buffy. Leave and fill as many prompts as you like, but make sure you do it respectfully. Feedback is actively encouraged, but no flaming! So have fun, Buffy fandom, and celebrate how long we've survived!

Keeping Each Other
Willow offered her a protection spell, once. It was actually pretty much guaranteed. No weapon forged (Faith didn't get the reference, it was hard to believe sometimes that she wasn't there for all of it, some things only Sunnydale natives get) could pierce it. Really intricate work, didn't ever use energy unless it had to and it took nothing to recharge but a few hours on a treadmill every couple of months (every few hours if things got apocalyptic, but that was less often).

"Thanks, Red, I'm sure it's great. But maybe you should just send one to B in the, uh, what do you witches use? If it goes through the sky is it called air mail?"

Willow didn't press the issue. She knew why Faith turned it down, for the same reason Willow never gave one to herself. There had to be some chance they could be killed in battle, in case -- in case. Fear of death keeps Faith grounded, prevents her from launching in and making it all about the fight and the carnage, now that she has something to live for, keeps accidents from happening when the consequences can get written on her body.

But Willow also saw Faith hiding the battle scars when she came home and she knew why. Willow was good about it, really. As good as good can be. She tried to ignore that she could feel Faith's fists pounding on the walls from across town, even when she was training her own set of slayers lessons about control; she let it all go, tell herself it was a part of the job, closed her eyes and counted to ten rather than let her students see her eyes blacken.

"Every night you go out there, you might die," Willow told the young ones, over and over again. "And someone you love might die. But that's not the worst part. The worst part is that you will die and people you care about will die, and outside birds will be chirping and flowers growing and people falling in love, not even bothering to notice. The world will still be a wonderful place, it just won't be yours anymore."

But as much as she said it, they really didn't know. Willow was pretty sure Faith could handle it out there. But Willow knew Faith wasn't so sure. And she hated herself for it and cursed herself for it...but she also was glad Faith wasn't sure. If it were just her love or Faith's love for her or love for life, Faith would probably have picked a losing fight by now. The thing that was keeping Faith alive was knowing that for all the years they've been together and all the years Willow has trained without an incident and for all her attempts at zen, it was still too dangerous for the world for the girlfriend of its most powerful sorceress to die.

Re: Keeping Each Other
Ooh, I like! Sinister in its way, for all that danger and potential threat, but also heartfelt feelings between them.

Re: Keeping Each Other
Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't sure if I got the tone right, to balance the threats but also make it feel like this is also kind of a good thing for them...

Re: Keeping Each Other
Arrrgh, you beat me to this one! Hope daria234 is OK with getting two fills... :)

Anyway, this is great - I love the punch(and it is a punch)line at the end. Willow not letting on that she knows that Faith is hiding things from her for her own sake, and why... It's bleak, but there's warmth in there all the same.

Re: Keeping Each Other
I'm sure if *you*'re writing the second one she (I assume she) won't :)

Right -- and hiding that she's hiding. It's partly inspired by that deird1 fic where Buffy dies and the gang is keeping Willow busy and Willow knows they are and doesn't let on that she knows why they're keeping her busy, I think.... I like the idea that there is an upper limit of how functional two walking time bombs (ready to explode or implode) can be, and they both know it (or know part of it), but that it can still be better than nothing.

Re: Keeping Each Other
I love this so much!!

I love both of them knowing that someday they might need someone to kill them and turning down the protection. And Willow feeling Faith across town and having to keep her calm, and what she said to the slayers she was teaching about losing though the world moves on. And the last line was so, so perfect - I love the idea that Faith fights to survive to protect the world from that other side of Willow.

Thank you!!! :) :) :)

Re: Keeping Each Other
Yayy! I'm glad you like it. :) One of the most interesting things about the two of them in season seven is that they are on the balance of "someone might have to kill me" and "I need to keep doing good and not lock myself away," so I like the idea that they are trying to be that balance for each other and it's imperfect but might be okay....

Re: Keeping Each Other
It's a zombie that will not die, but in a good way! (Maybe it's a sexy vampire.) (Or a centuries-old weary and dark but awesome witch.)
